True Ed, but at least with "Kane" the audience is informed that "Rosebud" was a sled!
The good-guy sometimes needs to suffer in a movie to make it believable & true....but in this case we (the audience) WANTED this charactor or at the very least....his wife....to triumph over the rotten SOB hitman.....OR, for the hitman to allow the wife to live.
I was really into the movie, very good....but when they killed off the innocent harmless wife I simply hated the movie for doing that. That alone served no purpose to the otherwise good story IMHO.
