I believe Sylvania named it the "Dualette" because it has two speakers (one on each side of the CRT-- both are identical ordinary small speakers-- this isn't a two-way speaker system).
...Not exactly the biggest sales point in the world to name a TV after, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.
Funny thing though-- I happen to have a Dualette with a two-tone aqua/blue cabinet that includes a clock-timer. The clock-timer is located where one of the speakers would normally go, which means this "Dualette" only has one speaker. I guess the name "Singlette" wouldn't sound as good, so they left the name the same.
