Bear in mind that the state of our union that shows up in phrases such as "This chemically pure water is known to the state of California to cause cancer..." is the same state that is creating the programming that we are seeing.
God bless the writers' strike; we may get decent television in the meantime....
Forgive me; I know that I'm perhaps being in some eyes a snot and a snob here, but I'm a crabby old New England grump, and such drivel as these writers show on the major networks are in my opinion best saved for those that would waste their time watching such.
I'm a little old fashioned, I guess. I hope I haven't offended anyone; just speaking my mind, and how I feel.
Back to the set, I have several of that ilk aroung here for when I want to watch TV--which is seldom. All my sets say SONY in their bold letters....But I will give a plug to Toshiba and Panasonic as well....
In this country we have Zenith (God knows where it is made now!)
And we have--I mean HAD--RCA (which made some good television sets in earlier years!) and GE (Which in my humble opinion.....?) But now both seem to be made by Thompson (TCE), a brand which I wouldn't pay to keep in my living room.
We've all sold our souls to the Asians at this point. We need to get on with it. We made this bed, and now it is beddy-bye time. This means that nearly every brand that was king in this country back in the day is no longer. G'night, folks!

No, I'm not offended! 99.9% of what comes on the networks is not worth my time. About the only network I watch is TV Land, and, it's not what it used to be as far as program diversity.
Zenith was bought out by LG (Goldstar) of Korea in the late '90's. Zenith is just a name now that is plastered on a few LG products. Actually, LG had shares of Zenith starting in the late '80's, I think. The quality of Zenith porducts really went down in the '90's. You can bet that most Zenith sets from the '90's that you find will have a bad CRT. Who would have thought 35 years ago that Zenith would one day be a memory.
RCA was bought by GE in late '86 or early '87. GE then sold the RCA/GE consumer products line to Thomson in '88 or so. I believe Thomson recently washed their hands of RCA/GE consumer electronics and the RCA name is now owned by Audiovox. I say "name" because current RCA sets are nothing more than Chinese garbage (like most everything else that is considered "consumer electronics") I will say that Thomson put out some fair sets in the '90's. The CTC175/177/187 series sets all had loose connections in the tuner; but, were otherwise OK sets. The newer RCA's since about 2000(CTC197 to at least the M134 series) love to eat flyback transformers.
Sylvania, Magnavox, Emerson, Toshiba, Sansui, Admiral, etc. are, for the most part, just names plastered on Funai made crap.
