When I first opened up the players I thought the platter was cast metal, but then I saw otherwise. I just replaced the stylus advancing belt, which helped, but the better of my 2 units still skips every so often. I think my other one needs a drive belt. When things are working correctly they do put out a very decent picture (for their age.) Something I really like about these is that they are made in the USA. A real last-gasp.
