This is a CTC-36...the CTC-53 can look almost exactly the same from the outside, but it has more transistors in the circuitry....about 1/2 transistors and 1/2 tubes. The one here (CTC-36) is an all tube type set except for a transistor in the vertical oscillator (and maybe a few in the color killer circuit).
I think the days of finding tube type TV sets easily are long gone! I probably have only gotten 3 tube sets so far this year. Even at the thrift store that accepts broken sets, the oldest ones seem to be Zeniths from around 1977 or so.
