Went to see "The Producers"...
 

..at the Civic Auditorium in Knoxville Friday night. This was a production of Broadway in Knoxville, an outfit that puts on Broadway plays & shows out here in the hinterlands. It featured Austin Owen as Leo Bloom, & Jason Simon as Max Bialystock. It was a pretty good show, I thought, the only problem being some of the leads' wireless mics didn't pick up too well. Overall, I felt the play lacked some of the nuance of the 1967 movie, & not everyone "got" some of the jokes-"Carmen Ghia", f'r instance went right over the heads of the younger folks. But all in all, it was fun, we all had a great time, & that's what mattered.

I worked that show here in Orlando for five weeks in 2005. I found that after I got over the differences between it and the movie, then I enjoyed it a lot. I watched 40 performances of it so I had time to get over my preconceptions.

I saw the show here in Phoenix a few years back,and it was a great time.I feel sorry for anyone who takes the role played by Gene Wilder in the film,though.No one compares.
