Project #2, Zenith set
 

Now goes project #2.

We're working on the top set in the pic (the bottom set is pretty rusty and isn't too pretty).

Set appears to work less the fact that the HV anode on the picture tube has a dry rotted rubber boot, causing arcing. I have a spare out of the other set which isn't dry rot nor cracked, nor will it crack when bent, but feels dry, as if it won't make a good seal when connected. Can I use something like silicone lube to try to make it somewhat more pliable feeling like these things are supposed to be?

Damn these sets are built well.

I have used HV anode leads salvaged from computer monitors and connected them directly from the rectifier tube to the crt. They are in much better shape than most of those salvaged from older TV's.

Try some silicone dielectric grease. You might be able to find some at work, it usually comes in a little plastic packet with aftermarket spark plug wires. Clean and dry the ultor connector and surrounding area on the CRT bell and also clean and dry the cable connector. Smoosh some of this dielectric grease on the CRT surface for an area the size of a hockey puck (that's a Canadian measurement scale) and also on the old boot. Remove applicating finger before applying power. :)

Hey, Cool sets! You cant beat those big back breaking table zeniths! Typical zenith, they still work no matter what they've been through! What chassis are those? Look like 1961 set?

Have to check it out. I'm going to get back into checking it out when I have some time, I changed the end of the anode wire, but still no raster.
