New American made tv's?
 

I read a small article today about an arizona-based maker of hi-def televisions opening a new factory in california. The company is called syntax-brillian and produces olevia-brand Sets. anybody heard of them? Of course given the location i would expect the employee parking lot to be 90% Toyota and honda... so i do not know if I will be too excited to blow my earned-In-detroit paycheck on one... and i still think 16:9 Is stupid, lol!

Don't be too excited. The California plant is just an assembly plant. All the parts are made overseas, like China, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Hey, it's something though...I'd rather see those 120 manufacturing jobs in Ontario CA than somewhee else in the world!

Yes, I'll go with that. If I had to buy a new set, I'd put one of those on my shopping list so I could enjoy Green Acres without thinking of it being assembled by slave-labor children.

What about Telstar Predictas? It says "made in the USA" with flag icon on their homepage (which I note hasn't seen an update since 2004), but in the FAQ section they claim manufacture of everything "except the tube and chassis" and I don't think they specify exactly where they are made.

The same "Syntax" brand also sells computer motherboards under their name, which are realy made in Taiwan by ECS (Elitegroup) /PCCHIPS.

Until we Americans are willing to work hard, 7 days a week, for 10 cents an hour with no benefits, there will be no true TV manufacturing plants on US soil :no:

Seems the "global marketplace" only benefits the multi-national business owners.....give it time, it also seems our own labor force is heading in that direction pretty quickly.
Guess buying $30 DVD players benefits us at least in the short term. But these NAFTA, GATT trade treaties were actually signed by folks WE elected?!
