Zenith 20YIC37 $ervice Saver Stinky Flyback
 

Im a little baffled with this one, Zenith 20YIC37 chassis is boiling the flyback wax out but the current draw on the horiz out is normal and efficiency coil is set right. Both the damper and output have been changed along with the B boost caps and horiz scan appears to be normal as is the high voltage. Pretty little set and works great except the stink of the flyback as it leaves its wax turds.
Is this one getting ready to fry and if so does anyone have a spare they want to part with?


Another question is does anyone remember an early Panasonic 12" color set that was in a black cabinet with a pedastal under the set that had the 3 buttons to the right, Pana-Color, On/Off and AFT with the controls being sliders. It was a tube hybrid with the color section being transistors and everything else including the tuner having tubes in a series string. I want to say it was late 60s Panacolor series.
Ideas thoughts? Would like to find this set.

Doesn't sound good for the flyback.Maybe it's got a shorted turn in the high voltage section.Strange that it doesn't draw excessive current.I had a 20Y1C138 chassis Zenith in the late 80s that was given to me.I sold it in the early 90s.Was a great tv.I had a spare chassis but got rid of it a long time ago.I actually had a whole set that was the remote version but the cabinet had seen better days and the tube was weak.They and all the old Zenith chassis from that era I had are gone now.I still have some of the old knobs and oddball NOS parts.

I have only seen a couple of those Panasonics.Both needed various electrolytic capacitors replaced.I think they used some oddball tubes in those series string color tvs especially Japanese ones.If one is bad you might have trouble finding it.Neither of the ones I fixed needed tubes but that was over 10 years ago since I last saw one.The picture was good but not as good as the 70s era solid state Panasonic tvs.My aunt's got one of the early solid state Panasonic sets that's still going strong.
