GE Hybrid Portable B&W
Last week while tv seeking, I spotted this little 12" woodgrain set by the roadside. Got home with it, and found the volume/ power control broken at its shaft, rendering the whole set useless (to someone who isn't willing to open 'er up). I of course am typing this as watching the tv, because I fitted a new shaft and knob on there. Easy enough for a fix wouldn't you say?
As for the technical stuff, It utilizes the S-F chassis, which has IC audio output and SS Horizontal Oscillator, along with some other functions. The tuner is tubed as well as the horizontal output/damper and vertical. I am guessing this is a '75 model because of the serial number and the fact that the UHF is detented, not continuous.
I am surprised at how well it fired up and how clean it is, the shaft must have broken off years ago, as a simple dusting was all the cleaning necessary. I am excited about this "mediocre" tv because it is my first GE set find in a LONG TIME and I haven't seen ... Compactrons ... in an equally long time. I seem to remember that Compactron tubes were one of the last tube developments?
The model number of this one is ASF2223WD if anyone cares...
