RCA 16" 4 way?
 

Hey folks, lookie what I stumbled onto down in Tennessee around Christmas. I would have submitted it earlier but I had it packed away. I do not know if the model # is on the back as I can't get to it and did not check before piling junk on top of it. It has a 16" picture, a 33-78 record player, a 45 record stacker, and AM radio. I guess this makes it a 4 way, huh? The knobs are missing because the TV chassis is missing>:mad: But, I probably have one that will work, if I ever get around to fixing it;) . The radio and record player electronics are there, stuffed behind the 45 player. Cool huh?:D

Definitely cool. I have the complete chassis for that if you decide you need one before I do. Could trade you maybe for a stereo vac tube audio amp.

Here's a picture from an old RCA brochure that I think is your set. The next model up had an AM-FM radio. I believe that the year of your set is 1951.

Rob, is your chassis from a 16" set?

They look about the same as all the other RCA chassis except they have two 1B3's in a voltage doubler to generate enough HV run that big tube.

I was not aware of that difference. It is actually from a 16" combo. I have the metal CRT as well. I have two other 16" sets with the same chassis. I haven't had the doghouse open on any of these yet so didn't know about the secret storage of extra 1B3's. :)

the one i am restoring has the metal tube and it has only 1 high voltage rectifer..... steve

Interesting. I'll have to look at mine. I thought it odd that they wouldn't have just used a different flyback with more secondary turns on 16" chassis.

The one I have is a TV/Radio combo, I don't know the model # and it's stored with it's back to the wall at the moment.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was easier at the time to use a doubler than to build a fly that could handle the extra voltage?
