GE solid state 19" portable
 

Here's one I got off ebay last week, it was only 2 miles from my house so shipping was no concern. Bid on it thinking it was a hybrid as there are no "solid state" lables on the front. After looking at the "no user servicable parts inside" warning on the back I realized this must be one of their early ss portables, it has early 1972 date codes inside. The picture is pretty good (on rabbit ears in my basement) with a strong tube still even though the flash makes it look otherwise...
Anyone have any of these early ss GE's?

Just curious.What's the chassis no. on that.Looks exactly like the set my dad and stepmother had.They gave it me in the late 80's and I sold it to a local woman after I fixed it.She said it quit about 1995 or so and she threw it away.Wish she had offered it to me.Probably could have got it going once again.The tube was still strong when I last saw it.And it had been played a lot with a lot of hours on it then.No pluggable modules in those.Much better made IMO than the later ones especially the EC chassis and the AA,AB, etc that had all those problems with the thru hole griplets that caused all the problems those sets had.

Mmm... Griplets, made a lot of money on those! It uses the JA chassis.

Interesting set. My hometown is "GE" country but I don't remember ever seeing one of these. I wonder if that was the first year for solid state at GE?

I'm thinking it might be... Anyone out there know?

I did too.My dad's was a QA chassis.I think they were very similar.Not sure though.
