I Finally Got A REAL Vintage TV
 

Picked this one up over the weekend...it's a 19" Panasonic called The Batesfield, and it seems to be from about 1971, if what I saw on tvhistory.tv is correct. Got at least 6 tubes in it, and weighs about 234 pounds! After tweaking the horizontal and vertical holds, this is the picture it gave me:

The convergence and geometery need some help, and the flyback gets pretty loud after a while when the set's on a good signal. But it works!

Nice set. I have a smaller black and white panasonic from 1971- the "Lantana" Which is a solidly built tube set. Whered you pick this guy up from? I need sources for sets lol

Got it in Kutztown. It was a castoff from the auction at the radio fair. Nobody bid on the poor thing so I adopted it. No telling what I'll come back with if I go there again in September. (I also got a couple of audio things I'll have to post on soon.)

I didn't know Panasonic ever named their models like that.

One thing - Pamnasonic liked to try lots of ideas with their styling back then. Anyone remember those 'dynamite' 8 track players?

Well, it FELT like 234 lbs. trying to get it into the car. Felt like even more in the hallway to the apartment - hallelujah for elevators!

Chassis pix coming as soon as I figure out how to get past the interlock. Gotta get in there anyway to clean!

Heh, silly me. I actually thought the TV weighed that much :D I worked midnight shift the night before and just got up. I was half asleep still when I typed that.

But I know exactly what you mean. I had this 1975 Sears (Wells Gardner) 19" color tube hybrid TV (the last tube TV made in Sears' lineup) that was very heavy. I mean, you needed 2 people to move it. At the time I had it I was only 16 and I only weighed about 150lbs. I needed to get my dad to help me move it, cause I could barely budge it! Now get this: It actually had a carry handle on top of it! There is no way you can lift that TV with the carry handle!
