Any ideas???

My tv is doing some reely goofy stuff....some scenes are good ...and others look like this....
Also the reds wash out to the side on ocations... any ideas?.... |
The reds bleeding out to the right can indicate a tired CRT, especially if it's worse with the brightness cranked up. Not sure what causes the tearing.

What set is this? Tube? Transistor? Tearing could be AGC or sync separator.

Magnavox - HD2502
...Solid state...about ..ooooohhhh.........15 years old......... |
R2R, I know squat about TV's, but I do envy the fact you can see B5 reruns!

Probably a bad electrolytic capacitor...looks like some kind of an oscillation going on that is not getting filtered out. Checking all caps with an ESR meter is a good troubleshooting test for problems like this. Have not personally seen this particular problem but had weak vertical deflection in a similar age magnavox due to bad caps.

Maybe it's allergic to Bruce Boxleitner? :scratch2:

Here's a totally know nothing possiblity...
Your Mach I's And Forte's are sucking the life outta your boob tube ? :scratch2: Guessing neither is shielded... Only reason I say this is I was refoaming a pair of 12" woofers, sat them too close to my CRT and man it didn't like it at all  |

Oh ...and B5!... (&porno) |
Could be decision day Gary.
If it's an easy fix, it's $100 or more at the shop; worse is more. But a NEW 27" or better can be had for $200 or so. So Bunky, how much you like that old set?? |
Does it do it with the VCR/DVD only, or TV only?

Good Luck Buddy :thmbsp: |
I've seen a lot of Magnavox sets from that age with bad soldering and bad caps in the power supply. They aren't usually hard to repair, but it's probably not worth doing unless you can do it yourself. Those sets are nothing special. You could buy a much better used set for what a professional repair will cost.

Well ...thats why I asked for ideas... :)
Looks like it will be going "Down The Road"!..... |
