Farnsworth/Capehart 651P

I keep saying I'm done collecting, but just couldn't pass up on this 1948 Farnsworth/Capehart. Close to home, reasonable price and excellent condition. Also, uncommon (perhaps rare?) and an unusual design.

Philo Farnsworth bought Capehart in 1938 and sold sets under both brand names. Capehart being an established brand typically was the higher end models.

This is branded Capehart but the less common Farnsworth is identical other that the small decal under the screen.

The top is hinger for easy access to the tubes. However, getting the chassis out is not so easy. You need to remove the speaker (note the wingnuts) and lift it straight up! No easy feat as it has two power transformers and quite heavy.

Dated 11/21/1948 as best I can make out.

It pairs nicely with the console version I picked up years ago.

Whenever I see the name Farnsworth, I always expect to hear the phrase "Good news, everyone!" for some reason! :D

I have the identical Farnsworth tv.I got it decades ago when I worked my first job out of college at the Salvation Army tv department. Paid $5 with no tubes and speaker.i had most of the tubes and one cap later, plus cleaning controls/tuner,I had a picture. The set was drifting vert and horz.needed a recap.Haven't turned it on in a few years.will recap someday. That is the Adams Family tv by the way.Awesome find! I almost never see these.good luck with the restore! Here is my YouTube of my Farnsworth tv running years ago. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9EKBFU...Um9ubDI1MjQ%3D RonL

If that's the one that was on marketplace, I'm glad you got it.

I was thinking about grabbing that set off marketplace. I passed on a rougher one at the fall ETF swapmeet because of that.
Glad it went to a good home.

Yes, FB marketplace in Schaumburg, IL. I haven't looked for any sets in a while and just happened to stumble across it. I think it's the only set I've picked up this year. Really trying to slow down and enjoy what I have, but I couldn't pass up on an unusual set so close to home.
