An Explanation but not an Excuse
 

First - I apologize for my idiocy and aggravating you good folks - you have shown poise and restraint in the face of my stupidity. I wish I could delete my asinine posts but I see no way to. I will however edit them all to one line that reads “Post not helpful”. If you can tell me how to delete, I will.

I figured a Moderator would ban my account and delete my posts within a couple days and y’all would never see them again – I still wish that to happen. That, I’m ashamed and embarrassed to say, is why I started all this.

I messaged the admin/mod over a 2-month period and asked that my account be deleted but never heard back. I snapped and went about trying to get myself banned. I’ve never done that before and I’m sorry y’all had to put up with my attempts here. A more thorough explanation follows.

After retiring several years ago, I slowly began chronicling online accounts I’ve accumulated – 312 to date – some not used in over 20 years. I’ve successfully gotten 198 deleted/deactivated/anonymized and still actively use nearly 81 – I’ve been battling for months to get the remaining 33 resolved. This is the only forum that wouldn’t even respond – and I snapped.

312 is a lot but most came from sharing hobbies with my son – buying/trading parts and gleaning advice for repairing and enjoying old dirtbikes, ATVs, electronics, etc. – in addition to the pile of accounts many of us create along the way needed to just live life in an ever-increasing digital world – especially when living in a rural area as I do.

Again, I am truly sorry about all this and will clean up my mess the best I can – this forum is lucky to have such a great core of folks.

Several days ago when you started posting nonsense in the thread where you made your first 2 nonsense posts the total user post count associated with your username was 2... Meaning that before your first 2 nonsense posts a few days ago you had ZERO posts on this forum and besides your username there was no evidence that you ever were a member here prior to your slew of nonsense posts.... it's fairly obvious your username isn't your real name so there was zero reason for you to care about a basically already essentially anonymous account being deleted.

Also on the off chance you're serious don't expect all actively moderated forums to do what you want in that regard... There is another vintage electronics forum that took away users ability to delete or edit posts after an expert got mad at the world and deleted his own posts manually gutting many threads that were the only source of info on some topics... On that forum they'll lock you out of your account and all non-violating posts you made will stay along with your username and a note that you've been banned. Some forums consider your posts their property and not yours from the moment you hit the post button...

Since I can not delete my posts, I think I have all posts edited - deleted old text and replaced with "Post not helpful".

I also entered a new title for each reading "Please Ignore" but, although it shows that as the new title when you open the posts, the old title still shows in the list of threads. If anyone knows how to change this, please let me know and I'll do so.

Again, I apologize for this foolishness.

I assure you, I'm neither, though I certainly have behaved moronically, and, to be honest, there's likely a non-zero group of folks who would agree with your assessment of my mental acuity.

I joined VideoKarma in 2005 - From any post, Click on my name, click View my Public Profile, Click the Statistics tab and scroll towards the bottom to the General Information where you can find my Join Date of 2/21/2005.

And that underlines my point. I joined in 21 years ago to find information about a hobby - I wasn't versed in the subject and had no advice to offer, thus no posts. The hobby is long gone for me but my personal information remains on these servers where it can be sold/hacked/misused.

I get the points you're making and understand your frustration with me. I'm being sincere - I apologize for my mess and wish I could delete every post.

I get it - and point again taken, and that makes sense. What most other forums have done is to disable and "Anonymize" my accounts - the account exists but has no ability to be logged into, all user information is deleted from the account, and the account is given a random number that displays as the user name on all posts - all posts remain. This seems totally fair and acceptable - I'd even be fine if my username remained on the posts - I just want the account disabled and my personal info not stored on servers to be sold/hacked/misused.
