Calling all Antique TV Enthusiasts!

Our CHRS Television Day will be held on May 23 this year. As usual, the event will include a number of presentations and demos on topics related to the technology and history of TV receivers and broadcasting.

Lunch will be available for a small donation. The event will be held at CHRS Radio Central, 2152 Central Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501. Starting time is 10 AM.

This event is free of charge, and you do not need to be a member of CHRS to attend. If you would like to attend, please let me know, so we can plan enough lunch, etc.

See you there!

We still have room on the schedule for another presentation or two, so if you would like make a presentation or prepare a demo, please contact me.

Here's a link to videos of our 2025 event so you can get a flavor of what the day is like:

I hope to see many collectors and enthusiasts there, too! Between the presentations, the opportunity to meet and talk to other early-TV-set collectors, and the wonderful CHRS early TV exhibits (plus all of their other amazing exhibits), if you are reading this forum then you should go if you possibly can. It is worth a trip.

Thank you for posting this announcement, Tom.

Yeah...A week of driving round trip to California (taking a plane to a swapmeet makes no sense as you can't buy or sell anything and presentations can be held via YouTube) plus gas out there being almost triple the already high price out here, plus having to experience the general weirdness of urban California... All that together doesn't make sense to deal with unless you're in a western state.

One thing that is not part of CHRS TV Day is a swap meet! So you can fly after all…

We could try to be extra weird, so that your expectations are fully met. Most days we probably seem almost normal. :)

We've got our preliminary schedule for TV Day set, and it looks like a nice lineup:

10:00 AM - Welcome and News

10:15 AM - Introductions

10:45 AM - Demo of Brian Cass’s prewar Andrea 1F5 TV receiver

11:00 AM - Presentation: Development and Early Days of the Laser-Optical Videodisc (Chris Musselman)

11:45 AM - Presentation: The Kuba Komet (1957): The Ultimate Flamboyant Cabinet and a Nice Example of German TV Circuitry (Tom Albrecht)

12:30 PM - Lunch

1:15 PM - Presentation: Highlights of a Lifetime TV Collection (Richard Dean)

2:00 PM - Presentation: The Challenges of TV Camera Collecting (Kevin Hempson)

2:45 PM - Presentation: Single Tube Color TV Cameras (John Staples)

3:30 PM - END

old_tv_nut 04-15-2026 06:29 PM

Will 2026 be recorded for YouTube? I'm especially interested in the single tube color cameras presentation but the others look good too.

Tom Albrecht 04-15-2026 07:04 PM

Yes, it will be recorded as in previous years so you can watch it after the fact. Sometimes it takes a few weeks before the edited video is ready, but it will eventually be posted right here in this thread.

John Staples consistently gives very interesting technical presentations, so you've made a good choice as far as one to be particularly interested in!

Tom, I will watch when available. I was particularly interested in the presentation given by John Staples in 2024 as you may remember. (Westinghouse)

And Chris, hope to see you on camera in the audience.

I’m in a Western state, Arizona but my age combined with fuel prices and airlines, forget it, never know what to expect these days. I only wish I knew of your organization having lived in the Bay Area for 30 years. I’m a member, hope that helps the cause. :-)

old_tv_nut 05-23-2026 11:52 AM

Just double checked to see if it is live streamed, apparently not. Waiting with bated breath for the videos!

Thanks to quick work by Dave Billeci, the video of this year's TV Day is available now:

This is something I truly -love- about life here! The freedom to both enjoy, and contribute to, the "general weirdness". ❤️

I hope you all enjoy the online video, thanks to the hard work of Tom A and Dave B.
