70 cm. in Your Area

How is 70 cm. in your area? It is just about stone cold dead here in the Atlanta. It never was very popular to begin with and I think it was due to the hilly terrain. I've got a number of UHF commercial radios that could be converted to 70cm. but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.

In Nashville ham radio is all but extinct. I can bring up 16 repeaters with an HT and can let it scan for days between hearing anything. 70cm is more active then 2m. It's sad hearing the tourists calling their heads off trying to get some local information and never getting any answer. In Knoxville, on the other hand, there seems to be a good amount of activity on VHF/UHF FM. FT8 and other pointless modes like it have just about killed any interest in the hobby on my part.

Very little activity in Minnesota as a whole. Some in the cities with IRLP and one actually imports IRLP traffic to keep it busy. VHF is about the same but there are a few nets that still pop up.

Hardily any here... If it doesnt pick up it makes ya wonder if they are gonna give it to someone else? (The freqs)

Yep, I thought of that too.

VHF is dead here too.

I like FT8 nd even more FT4, but ....

I'm surprised Olivia is not common. I've made several contacts on 20 m and find it very enjoyable. Many submodes are no wider than CW at equivalent conversation rate. The problem may be that there are too many submodes, and the programs seem to not autodetect well.

Have you done any WSPR?

ARC Tech-109 03-23-2025 03:39 PM

Done more on 10M in the past 48 hours than VHF & UHF in the past 6 months

Very nice :)

Running a Drake TR-4 on a random length long wire and worked Germany with maybe 10 watts into the wire and got a 5x5 report.

Dude111 08-15-2025 02:03 AM

Wow thats amazing for 10 watts on 440Mhz!!!!!!

I tell ya,if the conditions are right you can make the world probably on 1 watt!!
