1993 Sanyo DS25230 weak tube?
 

Just got this 2 days ago. I tested and got the lines with a washed out osd. Tried adjusting G2 as I figured someone had turned it up to compensate for dark pix. Just seemed to make worse. Can't even see osd now. Is this a weak, high hours tube or cheap caps that have failed?

Even with "zero" adjust in the G2, the image can appears?
The image here seems to have permanent retrace lines.
If is impossible to darken the CRT, perhaps the video output have some kind of failure, or it's +B, or, if set have the AKB system (unlikely for 1993 for common systems), this can are acting wrong.

Perhaps other people here remember other issues that can happening here.

Well, unfortunately is possible to have CRT disease, too.

I would tend to think it was something pooching the brightness circuit, preventing it from being adjusted. Could even be a bad brightness pot, or a bad flyback where there's some leakiness to the G2.

But of course could also be failed caps. Only one way to find out.

You should set it up inside, and post pic with OSD on the screen, or some tv show,
Several Pics, You know CRT's were not meant to compete with sunlight. Retrace
lines might even be a shorted driver transistor, you have to go inside and tone
the G drivers down, make sure they all work, & find the screen adjust, which
may be on flyback, pc board, or the board on the crt socket....

I'll get inside in a day or two. I'll connect a VCR and see what happens. I couldn't find screen adjustments anywhere. No controls on front and didn't see it in the menu when I was able to read it. Only add delete channels etc

Sounds like it might need the remote to do user adjustments

If you don't have, you can try using a universal remote. At least Sanyo is a big enough brand that it should be covered by one

There are certain older smart phones that have an IR blaster and can do universal remote stuff with an app. They stopped putting them on newer units, but if you have any older android phones in a drawer (the S6 has one) then it may work.

Some tv's of that age have a service menu, there is often a secret key to activate
that mode. I have a Sanyo DS25XX and you have to hold a button on front
like power button for example, and unplug the tv for 30 seconds then
plug it in while still holding the button...... You gotta google it like
"Sanyo DSXXX service menu" or "setup menu" I forgot how I
found it, but it allows a cryptic adjustment for screen settings
height, stuff like that. And each option is numbered, not
identified by title like on the user controls, you have
to be careful when in that mode....

Doubt its the CRT. Either the 3 CRT cathodes are very low volts,
or the G-2 (screen) is to high. Cathodes should be APX 120 VDC - 170vdc
and G-2 @400-500 VDC>

Dont mess with menus now Its VERY rare for them to go this far
from the reservation.

If there are no color controls ( R, G, B & drives ) the set uses AKB
& automaticly adjusts itself.

Yeah, there's no color controls. Only user adjustments seem to be through the remote. Turning the G2 down didn't correct it
