Emerson ECR1350 dead?
hello, I recently got a free ECR1350 but it won't start. I'm very new to the whole process so I'm not sure where to start, it seems completely dead even though the fuse is fine...? Was a bit confused opening it up since it looks like it wasn't really used much at all (barely any discoloration anywhere on either board except on VCC and such), and all the capacitors look completely fine. That being said, I've only checked the largest one so far but none of the others are bulging or anything, so I don't really know where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated, thanks :[!
also i can't hear the flyback noise or anything so i don't think it's starting things i've checked so far: - fuse (ok?) - one cap (seems ok) - the three resistors around it (R502 and the two others like it, all seem ok) |
Perhaps is interesting to check the +B for the flyback, to see if regulator is working.

Capacitors don't always give a visual sign that they are bad.
I'd begin by finding a schematic. Then verify voltage on the standby power supply, and main power supply. |
Do you hear a relay "click" when the power button is pushed ? If no click, the problem may be in the remote power supply, it's completely independent from the TV power supply and has it's own power transformer. If a click is heard, check for an open fuse resistor (R502) and a shorted horizontal output transistor usually caused by a defective flyback transformer. Sams Photofact lists the ECR1350 in set number 2645.

yep, didn't hear any relay going (or anything for that matter) when pushing the power button, guess i'll check that next! thanks!

First check and see if you have 10 to 12 volts DC on the relay coil connections. Sams labels the relay RY101, diode D124 is across the coil. If the voltage is low, replace cap C124, it's a 470 at 25 volts. It's standing next to the tall, main power electrolytic on the board.

Alright thanks! I'll go get a replacement for it, the voltage was extremely low (well under 1V)
That being said I don't have much experience here but .03V sounds weirdly low for that, does that mean something else could be wrong too? Could've also been reading it wrong not sure I think the diode is ok too, same voltage |

You can also jumper the two AC pins of the relay & see if it comes up.
It may only give HV depending on the problem. If HV comes up try turning on the sets power then. Zeno:smoke: LFOD ! |
thanks for all the tips yall! Just had some time to check it out again and I'm not sure if I'm doing things right but so far I've tried testing the remote transformer....there's 2 places on the board it's connected too (red/black wires by the ac in and two grey wires between ic102 and c615), I just tested for resistance and the grey ones by ic102 went to 0 but the other set by the ac in went to 1? I don't have the schematic for anything including the set or really much experience but that seems wrong...? Should I just replace it? Thanks!

For better understanding, is better to take some photos and circle the itens that you are investigating.

Start by checking the AC voltage at the input and output of the remote transformer. Should be 120V at the input and around 12V at the output. Then follow the traces that the output connect to, they will go to a rectifier and then a filter capacitor. Measure the DC voltage across this capacitor. The resistance will measure low here, and doesn't really help.
