Philco remote?
 

Which Philco sets used this little air pump as a channel change remote (?). The yellow tube is not original.

I've seen both the "Seventeener" and "Briefcase 19" sets use the pneumatic remotes with the squeeze bulb. Never seen that fancy one though.

I wonder if the metal ones were for some kind of hospital or institutional set?

I took a look around for this particular logo history and the only reference I could find was it being used in Spain 1964-1969. It does not seem to appear in the states. Has anyone ever seen this version? My eye says this style is much more 60's than 50's.

Can confirm this logo was used in Spain on Spanish-made sets, I have it on a 1963 Townhouse. I have an ad somewhere around here that mentions the set is available with remote, and aesthetically the pictured one would be a match. I’ll see if I can find the ad.

Well, I was right about the logo but not the remote. The handset was a four-button thing that resembled a GE handset of the time rather than a squeaker.

The ad copy used here was a real hoot; they made claims like Washington only trusted Philco with the technology used to send astronauts to space. You'd think they single-handedly ran the Apollo program.

The set I have is a Townhouse. It uses all American design; the cabinet, tubes, etc., are all American, right down to the FCC notice molded into the back. The actual components stuffed into the PCBs are mostly European though, as is the tuner. Philco sold other models here during this time, but they were mostly Phlips knock-offs built by contract factories with the Philco logo stuck to the front.

I had a Philco "Briefcase 19" b&w portable years ago, a trash find, without the pneumatic remote. Was the pneumatic remote an extra-cost option for certain existing Briefcase 19 portables, or were there certain models of this TV in which the pneumatic remote was standard? I did not have (and do not have to this day) the model or chassis number for my set, so I cannot provide a model number. If this is any help, however, my set did have the words "Briefcase 19" in red script lettering on the upper right corner of the CRT mask.

I think Philco used that stylized P logo on the predictas so that helps date it to circa 58-62.

Thanks Alan...and a great looking set. It is hard to imagine that my bulb traveled from Spain to the states. Something here used it. Was there ever a Predicta/Seventeener connection in the 60's?

I don't know what model numbers indicated the remote option, but the sets that had it also said "New Matic" on the lower left side of the cabinet.
