Picked up a BK 1077B with no wires
 

I was at my local electronics supply today and I think he picks things up because he knows I come in and buy old stuff all the time. Today he had a BK 1077B sitting on the floor that he sold me for $20. It came with all the slides and the manual but none of the wires. Are the probes something that still available or is this thing more or less a paperweight?

I don't think there's anything exotic or unique needed, just coax cables with BNC connectors and single insulated wires with clip leads.

Really? I figured the probe would have had a capacitor or something in line to protect the TV Analyst when you're injecting a signal into a circuit

You've got the manual, take a look at the info and schematics.

I'm pretty sure the analyst has the blocking capacitors inside it instead of the cables... I've been using mine with home made coax with clip leads on one end and BNC on the other end clipping that into IF plates for years without burning mine up. The other leads are banana plugs with clip leads on the other end.... simple to make.

Does it turn on? CRT should have a purple-ish glow.

I repaired TV's for like 40years or so!
One technician I was knew used to ask me,"how can you work on sets without a TV analyst". I replied that I couldn't justify the cost of one! I got along just fine!
Now I have three of them plus a VA48.
It's great to realize that a good tube checker still maintains it's value, but an analyst is worth peanuts. :thumbsdn:

I don't need an analyst for repair either, but having one sure speeds up diagnosis of things like IF issues and sweep problems. Just got a VA-62 at the ETF.

The reason tube testers are valuable is audiophools...If something is realted to tube audio amps it's virtually always overpriced compared to all other vintage electronics.

Thanks guys, I didn't see anything in the documentation or in the part numbers but I didn't want to risk damaging it either. Whenever I'm not sure of something I try to reach out to someone who knows more than me.

We had a shelf above the main bench apx 20 ft of test eq that we never
used. A 1077 was there but I never used it. But analysts can super useful.
Try it out, be sure there is isolation first. Use the manual to determine
what you can do. Most if not all leads will be direct. Be careful
around the Hoz, HV & vert out. Be sure you are doing it right.
My 1st 5 yrs I used a VOM, ringer, audio tracer / injector, & generator.
Abt 1975 we bought Sencore scope, analyst & power rite. I used
the analyst a LOT after that. Damn good time saver. Power Rite was
a great thing but so useful the still sell near the new price.
So bottom line is be CAREFUL not to hook it to HV / high pulse
places.
