Strange VHS glitch creates lines and colors
 

Could anyone help me with this odd glitch this camera I bought is having? It is cool looking but at the same time, it would be nice to get it working.
I am not super experienced, maybe someone could link me to someone who had the same issue?

What brand is this? Most camcorders had issues with leaky surface mount capacitors. I heard that Sonys were so bad, even their own service centers refused to work on them.

It's a General Electric CG-9810.

Likely made by Matsushita aka Panasonic and pretty much guaranteed it's loaded with failed electrolytic capacitors.

Seen it before and as others have said, faulty surface mount capacitor(s).

What everyone else says. Look to see if there is any electolyte on the board.
If there is any of the juice on there you'll have to clean it all off or it'll keep corroding and flush it out well under all the parts.

There's likely a bunch of electrlytics that have failed or are failing though.

What I see is it has low video gain, and also the vertical bars plus random flickering.

Is there any signs that it's ever been dropped? (Eg. Ding or scuff marks in the plastics) Those bigger camcorders were sometimes toast if they ever got dropped.
Does the picture change it you tap on the case?

Also will it play a prerecorded tape from another machine or a VCR and is it viewable on the viewfinder?

Also if you are running it on the power supply check to see that there isn't a bunch of noise coming in from bad filters in the AC supply.

First your audio clip has what sounds like 60 hz HUM.
Start with checking all your cables.
Odds are the video problems are from bad electrolytic caps.
The thing is full of them ! Only one or two may be bad
but finding it is tough. You can shot gun it but usually that ends with new problems.
SO lets hop into the way back machine to 1990. I would
guess only one out of 30 TV shops in the Boston area would work
on one ( I wouldnt). That tells you something !
Bottom line is not imposable but without a manual & putting $$$
into it not much chance.
SO if you want something for video find an older 3 piece rig that had
a docking station, VCR & camera all seperate. They were much easier
to repair. DO NOT pay for it, they are really not worth anything.
