Very early unit. Does not have the -A designation or signs that it has received the -A retrofit. Original bottom cover without the added fan and the original power supply. Very clean otherwise and the laser struck without any issues.

IR remote works and the player still handles CAV and CLV excellent.

If you have a spare working unit and want to get rid of it I might be interested...

They're pretty heavy.... :D

4... and I have none. But in Romania finding one, even in non-working condition is impossible. But how many working do you have?

First one was a $150 10PM craigslist buy, two others were $50 arcade converted specials that were filthy and needed a cleaning before I was able to sort out a bad tracking potentiometer and dirty optics and this one was a gift.
For a top loader they are fantastic. Reliability wise they beat the pants off the Magnavision and are easier to service than the PR-7820.

I can't imagine them being much worse than my Sony VO-1600. :D

Well, MIPS, you did pay money for them, but even if some one haves the money, finding a thing that is rare is hard. That's why I do appreciate that you have them. And please learn people about this wonder machines. Maybe they will apreciate the past more and stop destroying it.

Very cool that it works well as found. Do you get much (if any) video crosstalk on Extended Play (CLV) discs? That was the problem on my first VP-1000 in the mid-1980s. I talked to the Pioneer service department, and they sent me a nice USA-written service procedure manual that is supposed to be easier to follow than the Japanese-translated factory manual. But, they said I likely needed to adjust the spindle height to fix the crosstalk, and the jig for that was a $75 part, back when that seemed like $500 would now, just to make one adjustment. (I never did buy it, or fix the problem; later, I sold the player and bought several newer models over the years.)

I have, I think, three VP-1000s; I either never powered them up, or I did and they did not work. Projects for some future day (along with a VH-8000 that I would --love-- to get working!).
