Zenith 16D25 Parts
 

Hey Guys,
It's been a really long time since I've been on here.
It's been almost 40 years since I worked on Televisions for a living and I have recently decided to start restoring some old sets.
Anyway, My first victim is a Zenith B/W set Chassis # 16D25.
I managed to get the set to come back to life but a few issues.
First off, I checked the CRT with my Sencore CR-70 and it was very strong.
However, the yoke plastic has completely disintegrated, electrically it seems to be okay. Don't have a photofact (466-2) yet so don't have a part number.
Thinking about making a plastic mount.
Second the filter choke is completely shot and needs replacing.
And finally, the flyback in this set looks horrible but it works and may replace it if i can find one.
My thing is I have no idea where to get parts for these old sets anymore.
So I guess the question is, where's a good place to get old parts and also looking for line cords for these rigs.
I enjoyed working on this set and its got a long way to go but it does work so that's a good thing.

BTW, there is a thread that someone posted about restoring a TV that included how he made a replacement yoke cover from scratch using plastic and something like thin model aircraft plywood. I think it was a older RCA.

My curiosity got the better of me again and I had to do a search to find what thread I had seen talking about making a new yoke cover.

Crist does excellent work. He goes the extra mile.
Yokes, flybacks, other transformers and CRTs are hard to come by these days so salvaging them is a good idea.
The "search" function on this forum comes in handy.

LOL. The last time I worked on one of these I would just call my distributer and order a new one.
Its a little different after 40 years.

There's an easy way to get yoke covers for some yokes. ACE hardware sells snap on plastic paint can lids. The gallon ones fit early color yokes after cutting a neck holeand some black paint...it's possible the smaller ones (pint?) might fit monochrome.

Mouser carries Hammond transformers and chokes on its website. If you can't find a NOS choke but know it's inductance you can probably spec out a comparable Hammond and order your caps while you are on Mouser.

If your flyback doesn't run hot after you've gone through the circuit and let it run 45 minutes then it'll probably be fine... I've had nice looking ones dead and I've had ones that looked absolutely awful that lasted forever in that state...What matters is how well it works.

Also now there are very few broadcasters sending out the NTSC analog signals.
There are a few low power stations in the larger cities. I think some college campus TV stations still use the analog system.

The FCC had a permanent shutdown date for ALL low power and translator stations a few weeks ago. Any licensed station still transmitting analog within the continental US is breaking the law.

I hadn't heard that.

That means that shango066 won't be able to feature the channel 6 low power feeds in his videos any more. :O
