A little channel 2 fun...
 

My twin brother does a channel scan and says hes getting a local channel 2. I then do a channel scan, I get an analog channel 2. We are in Largo Florida.

The analog channel 2 is CHBX Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. 1287 miles.

The digital channel 2 is I think, W31EG I guess using a new VC. It is interesting that the video is 576i...

I live 30 miles east of Cleveland today, but the DX I am about to report was seen about 35 years ago (approximately) at my former home in a Cleveland suburb, about 15 miles east of the city of Cleveland.

I had some interesting reception on channel 2 years ago, before DTV. It was in the summer about 25-30 years ago. I received WPBT-TV in Miami on channel 2, using my Zenith J121Y b&w 12" TV with a monopole antenna. That same summer I watched channel 2 from Denver and another channel 2 from somewhere out West, using the same TV and antenna. However, my best "freak" TV DX was a channel 2 station from, IIRC, Wyoming. I saw the station on a 23" console color TV in my living room, which was connected to an antenna in the attic. The antenna was oriented southwest to receive the seven Cleveland television transmitters, located in the Cleveland suburb of Parma, Ohio. Because the TV antenna was facing southwest, I am not a bit surprised I was getting TV stations from Wyoming and elsewhere in the U. S. Southwest, some 2000 miles from where I lived at the time; the VHF propagation conditions were crazy, to say the least, that day. I also had some interesting FM DX one summer when one of the local FM stations was knocked off the air by a lightning strike. The local station was on 107.9 MHz. While the local station was off the air I heard, to my dumbfounded surprise, a station in West Palm Beach, Florida, booming in as strongly as any of the locals in Cleveland (however, I forget the call sign). I was listening with a 17-transistor AM-FM-stereo FM radio with a monopole antenna in my bedroom.

However, I have yet to see any TV DX from that far away from my current home, which is 30 miles east of Cleveland and probably close to 50 miles from the TV transmitters serving the area. Since I have cable (Spectrum), the chances of my ever seeing anything other than local stations on cable are slim to nonexistent; moreover, the external antenna connector on my TV (an Insignia 32" HDTV) is mounted such that it is very difficult to reach, so I don't use it much if I use it at all.

When I was in a hotel in Orlando Florida 2 years ago I got a fuzzy picture on analog ch 6, don't know where it came from though..

Anybody here know if Cuba still had some analog stations at that time? CMQ ch 6 Havana was a decent dx catch from the US in analog times.

Yes, Cuba still has analog TV stations being logged in North America along with some Central American countries...

I'm presuming channel 2 was used a lot in North America in analog days, I know New York had a channel 2, & in Florida Miami & Orlando had a channel 2 each. Read somewhere that channel 2 went far. In Britain it was channel 1 (45 Mhz vision/41.5 Mhz sound) that went far, channel 2 wasn't far behind although it was often blighted by co-channel interference from European stations...

Wow I imagine channel 1 did go far!! (When conditions were right)

I wonder why did they didnt use channel 1 in US/Canada??
