Sony PVM-8041Q no vertical
 

I recently acquired a Sony PVM-8041Q for a great price but it's got a major issue: there's no vertical at all, beyond a thin line. I'm sure that this is caused by failed passive components but where exactly should I look for said components? I don't really know how to read electrical schematics but I do know all the pots for adjusting the horizontal and vertical settings are on what the service manual calls the "D board". Maybe someone can help me make sense of this manual and help me figure out what to replace to get the picture working again?

The presentation of the manual sucks ( not your fault).
If you can post the actual schematic page that will help.
I assume you have a meter to make simple tests. Odds are
its not a big problem & can be shot gunned for $15-$30 in parts

Now that you mention it, there doesn't seem to BE an actual board schematic, just an electronic component listing and a listing of the various adjustments.

A common problem with on line schematics. They are fold outs
& usually not included. Too much work & when they are there
they are usually unreadable.
If you can find the vert out IC & measure all the voltages on it.
You can compare them with the IC's data sheet on the net.
Post it all here & we can probably figure it out. These ran nice & it
would be good to see it running.

Replace all the caps in the vertical section on the deflection boars via shotgun approach, they're all bad being 25+ years old. Follow the yellow & green wires from the deflection yoke and they will lead you to the vertical section, red & blue is horizontal. I've done many of these monitors and they all suffered from bad caps and solder joints.

I ordered caps for the board with all the horizontal/vertical stuff and I'm just waiting for them to arrive.
