Is there a Mouser list of Predicta parts?
 

I'm getting ready to start on my Predicta. It's still untouched, hasn't been plugged in since early 1961. I haven't even opened it up yet, aside from the CRT housing to test the CRT. It's an original 2.34-volt 21EAP4, and it tests like new - high green.

I planned to open it up today and get a parts order done before starting on polishing the cloudy screen. Figuring I'll want to replace all the filters, all the papers on the sweep/sound board, the cathode bypass on the V out, death cap, and maybe the rectifiers, plus a set of couplates from Crist.

Of course I can go through the Sams and then type all the parts into Mouser's slow and clunky website one by one, and choose the parts from among the hundreds or thousands of options. I was just thinking it would be nice if, since so many people have done this same work before, if that order had been saved somewhere and it were possible to just click "add to cart" for the whole shebang. Provided of course that said person had made reasonable choices for the components.

I Googled around and nothing jumped out at me. Does anyone know if something like this exists anywhere?

I don't know but one thing you can do to improve the order process on mouser is to go in to capacitors select the type (aluminum electrolytic or film) then select voltage, in stock, brand and other preferences then continually add and remove capacitance filters.

1-3 times a year I order what I think is everything my current project que and a year of random extra acquisitions needs (I make a list off each sets schematic and of every cap I have in stock and add what I need to maintain stock to what my large projects need. Then I make 3-5 order groups: 600V film, 450V lytic, 150V lytic, 1.6KV film, and oddball and do one group at a time so all I have to change is the capacitance value filter. I can get the order done in an evening, but going through the schematics of 2-6 TVs and counting the contents of my drawers can take a couple days...but when it's only once or twice a year I see it as a needed holiday rather than a chore.

Granted this here post is all the ramblings of a derranged TV collector and and yer free to dismiss it as such. :D

Is that an E chassis Zenith? I wish I still had my parents' F chassis with the up-and-down channel selector.

19HC48...never been opened AFIK. Thing is full of intermittent issues that I fix by slapping it or kicking the work bench... it's my bench watcher because it is the only 19"er I had when I moved in, and I'm too lazy to move the stereo off and swap it or fix it properly...:D

Well, you're already selling the couplates, might as well make it a complete recap kit. :)

I have a 9L37. No run number present, and I have been all over this thing.

I'm also beginning to suspect that this set has never been used, at all. It looks completely brand new inside. I'm going to do another proper post on it.

How do I tell which run I have?
The best way to tell is to check the part number of one of the networks. It is network N5 in Riders or K3 in Sams. It most likely will be orange in color. The part number will either be 30-6030-6 or 30-6030-7. Part number 30-6030-6 is used on Runs 1 and 2 only, while 30-6030-7 is used on Runs 3 and on.

As a recommendation, I would strongly suggest ordering a set of networks from Crist for any Predicta restoration. These are identical to OEM networks in size, pin out spacing and even color. Makes for a professional, clean looking circuit board repair. No sloppy breadboards. Ordered 6 sets of these over the past 2 years for two barber poles, a Holiday, a Penthouse, and two seventeen inch models. All performed excellent! No drift in the video or sweep circuits causing picture roll. These sets can be made to work well when time is taken for a proper restoration.

Agreed. I've used a set in a Siesta and currently a Holiday. Very high quality.

I'll definitely be using Crist's couplates, and I'm really interested in your last Predicta video moving the electrolytics to where they make sense, both physically and electronically. I need to rewatch it and take notes before I start!

Who makes those reddish brown resistors? I've been building stock of new resistors (because I'm sick of always finding the only 2 vintage NOS carbon comps I have in the value I need are farther off tolerance than the one I'm trying to replace) off mouser and digikey and I'd like something that looks closer to original than the grey bodied resistors in the starter kits I buy...

Vishay PR01, PR02 and PR03 series. Mouser, DigiKey and Allied Electronics sell them.

Looks like I'll be putting together a "kit" for Alan.
