Sylvania 15” portable
2 Attachment(s)
Bought this set Off of Epay today. I’ve been wanting a Sylvania tv for a good while now, especially a color one, of course. Anyone know the model number or approximate year?

Since its a Sylvania GT, I would assume its from around 1975 or 76. These are good set's!

Looks like an E-08 chassis set. There may be another model tag inside.
Very good set & easy to fix as a rule. Uses the dark-light CRT that gives very black blacks & high contrast. We worked on tons of them & they never sat long on the incoming shelves like some others, nobody ignored them. 73 Zeno:smoke: LFOD ! |
What a great color TV. As has been mentioned, these can produce a very fine picture when they're working well.
They are also made to be repaired. Furthest thing from modern throw-away junk possible! Interesting to note that this cabinet design was copied ad nauseum into the NAP era (later eighties). Those sets did not contain the hi-contrast tube nor the well laid out chassis, however. |

Here it is. It got here very, very fast, (2.5 days). The date codes say early ‘74, but, I think that’s really about a year too early. Uses the 13VAHP22 inline CRT. Set has instant-rotisserie, but the tube is still very good, with a very bright picture. The only major problem the set had was convergence was WAY off on either side, but reflowing some solder joints on the convergence panel fixed that. Almost every Soldered ground stake was Broken. This sure is a great tv, like all you said! I really love it!

This got me to dig out my Syl 15" today. More of an 80's version but the same fine set. I forgot about it bagged on the back porch for 10 years or so. Cleaned the spiders and it lit up like 1984. I did not open it to see it's parentage.
It's paper tag on the back was unreadable. It does not have all the customer controls on the back like this thread. Focus adj only. Other basics are on a top plate. Tuning, volume and AFT only on the front. A bit later I suspect. The vertical was jumpy at first. A day later it was stable. Width is a bit wide cutting off today's graphics. And a great saturated and sharp picture. Convergence is a bit off on the left but it will wait. Focus adj needed nothing. It was supposed to replace a GE 10" on the top of the fridge but was a bit too tight for the space. That was 10 years ago and the GE is still going strong. |
Dave A, I have the same identical model sitting in front of me as I type. It's a great playing set!
