Heathkit GR-227 color TV advice
 

Hi All
I have just put a Heathkit GR-227 color tv on the bench.
It is now in London UK so a all tube/valve NTSC Heathkit Color TV is not a type I have worked on before.
The circuit seems to be a copy of a R.C.A. CTC16 which I do have and had been modified to NTSC/PAL 4.43MHz working by RCA in the 1960s and I have got that working.
This is the first standard US color I have worked on and looking for advice on the problems these Heathkit TV have.
The flyback looks OK (I hope) the CRT test OK and is a banded A55-14X so no cataract problems.
The degaussing resistor is burnt out and I need to find a replacement.
I have noticed it has black sprague and aerovox capacitors in it are these OK or replace on site?

For your DGS resistors MOST sets used the same ones.
Workman Electronics is what we used to replace them.
They came as a pair part ## is FRTV
Or separate parts ##'s FR922 & FR066 IIRC.
Check eBay. You can also google it to look for NOS.

Most of the caps Heathkit used in the 50s and 60s are bad. About the only caps from the era to not immediately worry about are orange drops (and the different colored imitators), and the disc ceramic and mica types.

Heathkits were often owner assembled and wiring errors are common. Some had problems with non- stranded wiring breaking too IIRC.

Heathkit TVs are not common here either...they must be even rarer in the UK.
