RCA HJ843W combo unit
1 Attachment(s)
Been looking for this particular set for decades ... finally found one ... was told on another forum that Models starting with H were 67 models ... I looked though the 67 brochure and did not see anything like it... is it possible it is a cross over or maybe a 68 model?
Thanks |
I'm not well versed in decoding RCA model numbers, but...
Could be you have a early 67 brochure and it was a mid 67 cabinet style intro. It may also be a low volume special order style or something built exclusively for some store chain to match a furniture line they had. |

Once you take the back off, check the chassis number (CTC36 for example). That will get you in the ballpark. I have service info on that - somewhere - that would give a date.

The chassis is a CTC-28AA... and the video link you mentioned is my video...lol. Reason I was asking...I was wondering what the specs for the amp section would be... the 67 brochure mentions wattage from 40 watts all the way up to 300... and it says they have a minimum of 8 speakers... mine has 6... oval 15, oval 7, and 3 1/2 tweeter on each side. You mentioned this could be a late model for that year which would make sense ...the brochure models all start with HH this one is a HJ. My dad bought this model in mid 68 ... the only reason I was looking for this particular one.

That set was introduced in June of 1967 as a 1968 model. The "H" means combo, (G=console, E=portable,F=table model) second letter designated year, "J" 1968. RCA carried the same cabinet and TV chassis over into the 1969 model year calling the set an HL-836.

Indeed. Styles which sold well could last longer than normal. And big customers, could order somewhat custom cabinetry/chassis options with most major makes they were dealers for. As they bought enough units, the manufacturers could cater to their wishes.

Isn't the CTC28 the tv Elvis shot? Although was a table top set not a console or a combo. That's a collector's dream tv right there!

The Elvis set shown is a CTC31, remote set. Model FL532WR

Dang why did I think it was a 28..
