Zenith Metal Bezel paint/tinting/toner?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering what kind of paint(?) was used to give the metal covers and bezels their gold/brass tint. Does anyone have an idea as to what I should use, or even what it's called? I'd like to sand, polish and re-paint it if possible..

I have attached a picture to help match the color. I suppose it used to look as good as the inner side of the hinge at the bottom of the pic.

Thanks in advance!

The brown to the tint they used reminds me of the dark semitransparent paint custom car guys use on chrome...I forget what they call the process but I saw a spray can of the stuff last time I was in my local advance Auto.

Toner lacquer may also work... just have to get a lighter shade of the same color and gradually add light even coats till it matches.

I have a 48 porthole that has what looks to be the same door as you have pictures... the metal needs a recoat on mine and the above ideas are what I have been kicking around as a solution for when I get to it. (Gotta finish the chassis, patch some veneer and spruce the finish before I mess with the metal)

Like Tom said, it's just tinted lacquer. Experiment on some plain scrap aluminum until you figure out the right color. There are transparent dyes available to add to clear lacquer. Then you do multiple coats of the right shade until you have tinted the aluminum the correct color.

I used the technique to tint the aluminum pannel below the viewing screen on this 15" Motorola color set. Follow the link below to my web site. Good Luck

Thank you for the replies!

Luckily, I have another spare set of covers for this model (in worse shape) that I found on ebay, so I'll try it on those first and report back!

Christ, have you ever seen a 48 Zenith in person? The lacquered metal isn't a bright gold color, but rather a darkish brown color close to aged bronze... bright gold isn't the right color.

Then choose one from the Nikolas website.
