Looking for a model #
 

I picked up this Quasar portable over the weekend. I have not been able to find a model number so far. No sound or picture, tubes light up. That is as far as I got. Once I get a model number I will get the service manual. I am guessing early 70's

IIRC the 24 V regulator used to go bad on these. Its on the side
behind the tuner. Also be sure the main filter can has apx 130 VDC on at least one terminal. Regulator transistor should have apx 24 VDC on all 3 legs.
For a manual look for the chassis number inked on the chassis. Format is
##TS9## or TS9##. Good luck.

Found it, the tag was under the crt part of the cover.
It is: F18TS-929-G0 Tech manual CTV-6 Serial 1239 8542

I tested the CRT today and it tests good, so I am going to work getting this one to work.

That's a really cool set, must be just pre-Matsushita. Hope you can get it going.

Those four-tube Quasars were great sets, aside from the power supply problem Zeno mentioned I think I remember replacing a fair number of horizontal output tubes in those.

Trivia: these sets were introduced in 1969 as a 1970 model; it's the first portable color TV built by Motorola in the US. They had a couple of earlier models that were either rebadged Sharps or Admirals (thanks to Doug H for that bit of info).

They also had a 19" that was the hand wired console chassis. It was a
beast just like a Zenith & not what I would call portable.
