Rca ctc-24a
 

A friend just dropped off a RCA CTC-24A, model GH-648-WH. It is missing its legs and I'm trying to find out what style they are so I can find something close. Does anyone have this set or have pictures so I can see?

I cleaned the set up a little, tested a few tubes and fired it up under a variac. It needs converged, but it came up with a decent picture. I let it play a little while and the electrolytic stayed cold. Now if I can figure out what the shape the legs were...

Odds are it uses the same tapered 50's-60's modern legs that almost every set of the time used. Grab a set of legs at your local Menards, stain to match and lacquer, and call it done.

Ikea used to carry a pecan finish set of 8" legs, but no more...

I you need the bolt thread kind, 3/8" hanger bolts at Home Depot, Lowes or Menards will work - predrill, of course...

Called it. You can get legs just like that complete with the swivel feet at Menards...I have a set I can show you.

While waiting on the legs I decided to clean the set up a little. After a little mild furniture cleaner, it looks pretty good.

It seems to have a pretty nasty cataract that will need to be taken care of... :scratch2:

The cabinet looks to be in exquisite condition. If it it were my set, I'd take out the crappy CTC-24 and put in a CTC-25. The 24 was junk.

Yeah, I'll take care of the cataract in the summer when it's hot. I prefer the sun heated version of cataract removal over the heat gun. Much less risky.

The CTC24 was never my favorite chassis, but they weren't that bad!
Back in the day, I worked on both chassis and neither one was that outstanding. Both used the same tuner arrangement with the fine tuning setup.
They both were equally hard on flybacks, but the '24 would eat 6GH8's. :scratch2:
