Zenith VR3300 VCR
 

This is a neat VCR, the tape goes in sideways! At first it wouldn't play. What I found is that the tape wasn't being pulled out. Once I cleaned some of the old grease off those tracks, it worked fine. (The first picture has arrows pointing to what I'm talking about) Should I clean off all that old grease and regrease it with something?

This unit produces the clearest paused picture I've seen on a VCR. That picture I took is of the tape paused.

I'm looking for a remote for it, if anyone knows of one, that 4th pic is the best one of it I could find.

I also picked up a matching Zenith audio cassette recorder from the same era. I had less luck getting that to work. It plays the tape ok, but it keeps reversing sides every few seconds all by itself.

If you find 2 remotes I could use one. One of the big lytics in the linear power supply in mine was dead and before I swapped it I had more hum than video and the HiFi was intermitent.

I remember that sideways tape VCR.I think I have a broken one here in the shed.I do remember a Zenith VCR with all separate plug in modules on the MoBo.I cant remember the model number.

I have the mono version of this VCR the only problem with mine is that the loading mechanism belt (a small square belt that's about an 1" in diameter is stretched to the point that it wont engage the motor and loading mechanism pulley anymore and I haven't had any luck finding a new belt for it besides the fact that the belt is a pain in the butt to get to and replace. So mine sadly enough is going to be scrapped out unless someone has a replacement belt they could send me for the VCR.

Have you looked at rubber plumbing O-rings at your local hardware store?

Another solution is to cut a larger belt and super glue it back together after shortening it a bit....I've used that technique with rubber bands to duplicate flat belts, and used it to fix stretching.

Soak it in ammonia for 24 hours or so.

I got this idea from the CED guys and it has actually worked for me.

nope, I can't say I have, I did look at MCM and they didn't seem to have the belt I needed.
