Sanyo 19" black and white
 

Back in the 70s, my folks had a Sanyo. I don't have any pics of it. I remember it was a portable 19" set. IIRC the cabinet was off white and gray. Anyone have pics of a set like this??

Large screen B&W sets from that era are scarce, even RCA and Zenith are hard to find, a Sanyo is going to be really tough to find, though radiotvnut did just find a 70's Panasonic.

Personally, I don't think I've had my hands on a Sanyo B&W that was bigger than 12". I've had one or two Sears 19" solid state B&W's from the '70's and those may have been made by Sanyo; but, not 100% sure. I think those had a black front and either a black or woodgrain cabinet.

Possibly Sanyo made sets like that for Sears?

Sanyo made many portable B&W TV's, radios, record players and cassette decks for Magnavox from the mid-60's thru the mid-70's.

Here's a sixties Sears Silvertone Medalist 19" I recently got. It is built by Sanyo and is mostly tubed with a few transistors. Can't argue with that picture!

That's a Warwick built set. The Medalist was their TOTL set.

What are your opinions of Warwick TVs? I see very mixed opinions on the net. Must have gotten a good one though, since it runs amazingly well...on a crosshatch pattern, the geometry is spot-on and the audio has zero buzzing on a text based raster.

That is very similar in looks to the set my folks had. Great picture on it.

I always thought the Warwick sets were excellent. The only problem I ever saw was in the later part of the two Bureau when the 3DR3 leaded high voltage rectifier tubes came out, Warwick did not change the size or composition of the cup that held the tube socket. This resulted in heat build-up, which caused the rectifier socket to get plugged up with molten plastic from the cup. I worked on several Warwick sets, color and black-and-white, and they were at least slightly better-than-average in terms of reliability build quality and picture quality, in my opinion.
