It's a flat screen remote tv fit in an old set.

That WAS ONCE a great Zenith CCI console. Probably the same 12B13C52 chassis as my Boyden model. I'd love to slap the idiot that thought it would be easier to cobble another TV in that one than fix it properly...

The control panel on the BS set, could be a 12A12C52. :scratch2:

Better fine detail wise and in not decoding some monochrome info as chroma garbage.

If I gave that Silvertone a proper chroma alignment (and possibly full alignment) it would probably beat the Zenith.

I have nearly the same model from '70 which has a 12A12C52.

I'm thinking they just superimposed that image on the screen. No Zeniths were harmed in the making of this episode of Mama's Family!

Pretty sure Mama's Family was WAY before "practical" (if there IS such a thing..)..flat-panel tv sets larger than about 10 inches..

I say "practical" this way because...most flat-panels sets are NOT really "ready for prime-time" compared to CRT'S. Sure..they are lightweight...but they are NOT reliable and TOTALLY not durable or long-lived. Take ANY flat-panel and take a CRT that are both perfect..put them both in storage for 15 years..and THEN...we shall see which display is still useable. After a short "wake-up' period maybe..the tube WILL come back and be useable, unless it has lost vacuum. That LCD panel after that long? likely it WILL have suffered de-lamination, dust contamination or panel separation from just TIME.

The Zenith should have a black matrix CRT and rare earth phosphors where the Silvertone doesn't. That's where the big difference is. :scratch2:

Yeah, this is from a TV show from the late 70s/80s, so no flat panels. Might be rear-projection (video) to avoid curvature problems when re-shooting it. A spherical screen is a pain to shoot with studio lighting present, due to glare from (mostly overhead) lighting.

I'm wondering if it's just a green screen mounted in an empty cabinet with a chroma key effect used to make it look like a working TV.

or maybe some kind of studio monitor mounted inside.

That's the worst fake TV screen I ever saw.
