Contrast Buzz
I have a 1953 Philco that I watch most every day and it has a great picture and good clear sound except when there is a high contrast image. Is there anything I can do to minimize the buzz?

I've had this problem too, some sets have a "Buzz" control inside but i don't know if that Philco does.
Turning the Contrast down some may help. I have a 53 Philco too. |
No buzz control on this one. The picture tube tests poor but the picture is pretty good and the contrast and brightness are up near the top of their ranges. I will try turning the contrast down some.

You can try the AGC also. What happens is the set gets
say a weak video amp & the pix is washed out. Turn up the AGC & it looks OK but is on the edge of IF overload. Try unhooking one wire from your source so you get a snowy pix & see if it still does it. the audio detector/quad coil can also get rid of it sometimes but that is a LAST resort. They are old & dry & break up easily. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
