Picked up a Mitsubishi HS-U570 for $15
 

Real nice working vcr with original remote. Only gave $15 for it near mint. I'm always up for a good vcr.

I have two Mits with mech and capstan motor issues .I say they are not for everyday heavy use .NEC falls in the same line.

Keep stocking up with them.I've been doing the same.
I dread the day when the blank tape drys up.

Then I got to go to sucky DVD and DVR.

Meantime thank goodness for those TV/Movie sites and Youtube where you can watch and download your favorite shows.

I've been using a Toshiba DVD recoreder-VHS machine and have never had an issue with it's DVD recording function. The resolution, noise, and lack of tape drop out are worlds better than VHS even S-VHS, and the discs take less space than tape to store. Sure there are some compression artifacts depending on the bit rate you set, but with digital compression in the back end of our analog cable system, and the general lack of pure analog in any receivable station today the artifacts received from the channels are often WORSE than the ones the DVD recorder adds. Discs are cheaper too.

I for one am glad I dumped VHS for time shifting and archiving.
All I have to do is remember to finalize the disc so it can be played in other DVD machines.

RTFM on your machine if it ain't working, user error is a common issue with DVD machines.

I like VHS because there were a lot of titles released on it that you're probably never going to ever find on DVD or Blu-Ray ever, so that's why I hold onto VHS still, also there's just something about having to rewind a VHS tape after it ends that one just can't ever live without doing, because it just brings back so many good memories of watching movies with the family when I was a child and having to make sure the movie was rewound before playing it and then making sure it was rewound after it was over. I remember when we used to go to Blockbuster when I was younger and we used to rent VHS tapes from there and we had to rewind the tapes before we brought them back or you would have to pay an additional fee, I also remember going to the local public library and renting videos from there on VHS and we had to make sure they were rewound as well.
