Philco Predicta Princess Focus "Control"

2 Attachment(s)
Has anyone tried to adjust the focus on their Predicta Princess? Mine is decent, but I thought I would try to dial it in. In the sams it says you can vary a lead from a few voltage points and keep it on the one with the best focus.

I found the lead near the rear of the chassis, on the bottom of the connector coming from the picture tube. Whether I connect this to ground, nothing, or short to pin 1(of the connector), its makes absolutely no difference in the picture focus. Is this normal? Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

That's about what I've seen on Predictas as well. Is your focus reasonably sharp? I haven't really had any focus problems with Predictas, so it seems this particular capability is not really needed.

I had few Predicta's through the years and never had a focus issue either.

weak CRT will make for poor focus.

I'll go broader and say that I've not noticed much difference in any CRT that used electrostatic focus. They often use a shorting strap on the base so you can either connect the focus to G2 (around 400v) or G1 (around 0v).

Thanks guys, the focus isn't bad, just no 630ts or anything. I'll just connect the lead to ground and call it a day.

Focus jumpers almost never make a difference. Usually either
the set is by nature that way or the CRT is a tad weak.
If you run the set in a dark room with the brite & contrast
way down & it looks a lot better its the CRT. The risk of
rejuvenation or a brightener are not worth it til things get
really bad on a set like this. Most will ooh & aah about the
styling & the fact that it works anyhows.......
