Zenith 13Z13 chassis
 

Today I scored a very clean black and white zenith 13" from 1970. It's a tube-powered chassis and all the devices are original. Nicely built point to point construction too. The power switch is shorted but luckily the volume pot works fine still. The previous owner put an inline wheel switch on the power cord.

Is this a US made set?

Its just before the hybrid B&W's from Taiwan.
Not many came in so quite reliable. Not like the popular GE's
at the time that came in by the truck load. That extra $30 for
the Zenith was worth it.

It sure looked like the Taiwanese version at first. But it's U.S. made. It's hard to believe they were making small portable sets to such a high quality level back then!

I've had this set running nearly continuously and there has been zero drift in tuning or deflection. It acts like a brand new monochrome tube set, if there were such a thing...

That's impressive for a set that is almost 50 years old.

A true Zenith B&W portable, pretty nice catch. Saw a slightly older version in the movie The Poker House with a color picture superimposed on it. Low-budget flick set in '76 with an early 80s System 3 console in some scenes.

I was selling Motorola at the time. They also, seldom came back for repair. They were priced in between the GE and the Zenith. These were the sets, assembled in Quincy, Il, before they moved B/W production to Taiwan.

Zenith shows that chassis as 1969, under several models:

T2614W
Z1305
Z1310

I think I have either a cabinet variant or a 1-2 year older version of that. Mine has failing lytics.
