Is This A Zenith TV Stand?
I found this in my Dads garage today and it is the one he used for a 1963 Zenith he bought new I am working on. The 2nd picture shows how nicely the bottom of the TV fits it, but I want to know if this is a Zenith stand or an off brand? I remember playing with those knobs when I was a very young child and I bet they played a role in my learning to walk, lol. I was born in 63, the same as the TV.
I hope this is in the right category and my apologies if it isnt. http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...tand%20001.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...tand%20002.jpg |
I can speak for 1970 on. Zenith did not build stands. Gusdorf
built every made to fit Zenith stand I remember. Gusdorf also built universal stands with a full shelf for any set. Bottom line is if the set fits perfectly & safely the stand was built for that model. If the stand had a full shelf you cant tell for sure. Other brands sometimes packed a set with a stand. We sold Admiral also. They often had a stand but they were so bad we wouldnt build them. A few sets wound up on the floor. We would wholesale them a Gusdorf instead or let them build it themself if they wanted to risk it. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
Thank you. That is good information. My Dad cannot remember where he bought the TV or it would have been easier to figure out.

It's construction reminds me of one I got with an early 60's Zenith. It is probably a Gusdorf. Your stand appears to have a ventilated metal shelf...If those vents roughly match the bottom vents of the TV cabinet then you can be sure the stand was made for the set.

The vent thing is the bottom of the TV. I have it off so set it on there for one of the pics. Thank you for your reply. I did a google image search for Gusdorf stand, and although I didnt find any exactly the same, some were very similar so I think you are both right as to the brand. I was pretty happy when I found it as I thought it would be long gone. Thanks again.

The bottom pan was by far the worst. A little on the back cover. A couple spots on the sides and top where scatches and dings had occurred years ago. The electronics have little rust, just dirty of course.
