From a local newspaper, hard to tell what brands of TV those are. Dates from 1978, when I graduated collage. :banana:

I'll take all of the TVs on the top level. :banana: I've been wanting more table sets.

That was still before the big box stores got popular.
It seemed in this area, the decline of the smaller dealers started in the early to mid-80's.
Sears only sold their own brands, K-mart and Target only sold makes that were less popular.
Then came Kennedy & Cohen, American and later Best Buy and some others that didn't survive.

Some of those sets look like GE twelve or thirteen inch models. I used to love checking out the newest TV sets in stores years ago. Once flat panels came out I lost interest. I don't even like to be near the TV displays these days because the digital circuitry causes varying delays in the sound between models. When they are all on at once it sounds like a cacophony.

I wish I could remember the kind of console TV I was drooling over at Tel-Star in '93 or so.

I think I see GE, Sylvania & Zenith. The Amana "Radar Range"
sitting on the box was undistructible. Probably weighs 5
times what a modern one does. AND lasts 5 times as long....

This seems to be a typical big time white goods dealer that
also sold brown goods on the side. No real brand loyalty. Always
sold GE TV's. I cant remember a GE brown goods dealer in our
area. Want a GE TV? go to the appliance cat.
It was RCA or Zenith, (half the sets built) or in a big city
Maggy, Sylvania & Motorola for your brand. Always had a lower
priced brand, in our area Admiral was the low end line most often.

Same could be said for my Kenmore, but I'd like one of those anyway.

Of all my sets, the Admiral will be my biggest challenge. High-end cabinet mostly stripped of the ruined finish and low-end guts I guess. At least it has tube-controlled HV.

The set on top - far right looks like a two-selector Zenith Chromacolor II.

The appliance buyer's co-ops still exist for the remaining little guys, who just sell appliances now.

Big box stores moved into and out of the same locations in succeeding years;.

That's fine, just leave all of those delicious real R-12 based aircons at the bottom alone. I'll take them all. :yes:

Window shakers usually used R-22.
Fridgidaire used a different refrigerant in their products. :scratch2:

Ha, never heard them called that before.

They're impractical to me because they render the window opening just about useless otherwise. Besides, they seem to only be popular for those who don't maintain their properties, at least around here, yech.

Here is a picture of that place as it looks today. In the middle picture
you can see the display sections up against the front windows.
This place I'm pretty sure up into the middle 80's had a roundie
of some kind displayed on the right side. I'm pretty sure I wrote about it
here once. I remember it with the green awning like in the lower picture.
That is of a store just a few doors down, with the original 80's awning
still "un improved" for the 2000's with the blue awning....

I was in that store, it was small, and went back more that it was wide...
I also bought my first mountain bike in Ridgewood back in '84 and rode it home
along that street.... There were 3 tv shops on Kinderkamack rd between
Ridgewood and the NY border....

That reminds me of a mom an pop store that was up the street from our store.
They proudly carried the Zenith line....televisions and stereos. :yes:
