Are NOS vintage CRT's "asleep"..like others ones we see?
 

We have all seen a number of old picture tubes that are "asleep' after many years...decades... of disuse. Most often these will "wake up" and then function fine form then on.

But...how about "new" CRT"s? Ones that have never been used ..but are still quite old? Are they also "asleep" and to they have to be "woken up", like the others? or do they just come up to the good area at once?

I bought one of Bob's NOS channel masters. I broke the original tape on the box tested it and it was quite healthy.

I bought a few NOS from the same person as mentioned above, those Channel Master rebuilds, and when I put them on the tester the results came up quick like a new tube would.. They didn't slowly climb like a used tube would.. I don't get the physics on why a new verses a used one...

All the NOS CRT's I've had tested excellent right out of the box.

i purchased a magnachrome crt back in the 80s.right out of the box it tested great.when installed in the set,it looked bad.dim and gassy.i let it run for several days and it slowly came up.end result was a very bright,sharp picture.the one and only time i experienced this

I have had 3 new old stock and all tested good rite away.

I have just got a couple of NOS CRT's and they both tested great right away, within about 10 seconds of connecting the tester.
