VCR Refusing Tapes

The old 1994 Panasonic VCR I use to record stuff off TV every once in a while has finally given up the ghost it seems. It spits the tape back out after you push it in, sometimes right after, sometimes after 30+ minutes.

I've also noticed putting a tape in doesn't work as it should anymore, the mechanism doesn't suck the tape in, spitting it back out instead. The only way to make it go in is to push it all the way in.

What are its chances? Feels like a belt.

As long you got power .I would check the belts first. Then I'll check the sensors on the side of the tape loading mech and the center photo diode/light sticking up in the middle of the tape mech.after that I would check the mech timing which could jump out of time.and then I'll check the mode switch.

I'm alittle confused as it spits out 30 minutes later.
