Mid 60s Panasonic B&W
I just won this on eBay this afternoon, it looks like a tube set no? I mostly picked it up because it looks like its really small and it looks like a tube set... Does anyone know what the model number is on it? I would like to do some research, but I get lost in a sea of 50s tube portable sets whenever I try to do any resarch...

Got one just like it, & ANOTHER one that is branded "Singer", but is the same set, otherwise... Good performers. Think you'll be pleased..

I've got one almost exactly like it, the knobs are a different style though.
Can't help with a model number because all the paper tags have fallen off. |
AN-109 I got 2 of 'em.... Yes all tubes.... Great sets... You can use it as a
flashlight the tube is bright and strong.... It would be nice to get a manufacture date, I think it's early 70's like '70-72. Mine has the original knobs.... There is a picture of it on here somewhere.... . |
Remember seeing a Panny catalog, & these l'il guys were quite a bit cheaper than their Soiled-State cousins...Matshushita stayed w/Tooobs a lot longer than Sony did, IIRC...

Similar to my AN-82D only mine uses slider controls, has a slide-rule UHF indicator, and is has a wood grain cabinet. Mine is a non-defeatable instant-on set, and the tube is weakish. I think mine must have been a restaurant/bar dwelling set as the inside was dustier than even most 1930's radios I've opened, and it has a rather strong tobacco smell...Might also explain the weak CRT if it was ran long hours every day.
|
Hmm, Is this set by any chance one of those instant on sets?

I bet, if this set is as small as I think it is and with it being an all tube set I but you could fry some toast on those top vents! :jawdrop: I hope the board in mine isn't toast, or did these sets use a "real" chassis?

I just fired mine up using the Agile Modulator for a source and it has a great picture, very sharp with good contrast. It started to roll a little after a few minutes but it locked in with a minor tweak of the control.
As the Squirrel said it has a really bright CRT! I didn't see any tube glow with it off so no Instant On that I can detect. |
