RCA fishtank

Someone actually did it. What nice RCA color was sacrificed? Further look says it may be a clone. Cannot read the lower left on the bezel. No other RCA markings but RCA layout regardless.

Not sure it was color., could have been a BW set. Still a shame either way.
I was looking at the controls in the lower right. Very CTC-11 looking.
i would offer them 25,00 for it and they can keep the the fishtank, might run accross one that might need a cabinet.
Wonder if they're selling it because after they went to all the work of doing it, they discovered an old tv makes a lousy fish tank?
Lower left bezel looks like "new vista" which is RCA for sure.
Got to wonder why the general public considers console TVs so great for repurposing, but no good to fix up and use as they were intended to be used.
The two knobs under the channel selector don't look right for a CTC-11. Mine has four controls there (two pairs of controls on concentric shafts that are arranged vertically rather than horizontally): Tint/Brightness and Color/Power-Volume.
"New Vista" was a marketing puff-word that referred to the 6CW4 nuvistor used as the CTC-11's RF amp. I wonder if any B/W sets used nuvistors and thus qualified for the "New Vista" badge? Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios http://antiqueradio.org/index.html |
I believe there were monochrome new vista sets.
I have a monochrome new vista portable - see recent thread. I also saw one at a thrift shop about ten years ago which I have always regretted not getting.

Maybe I should buy an old fish tank and re-purpose it to make it into a TV set :D

These re-purposing projects always make me consider how many people respond to an enigma; in this case an old TV set.
Don't know how it works, not interested in learning about it, not interested in repairing it, not interested in preserving it. The next logical step is that it is to be 'brought down' to a level that can be understood. Bars, bookshelves, and fishtanks. God help us all. We need another renaissance. |
