RCA TV with it's own decorator serving tray
 

I came across this old ad from 1963 showing an RCA TV with a removable tray for serving snacks. I have never heard of this before but thought you guys might get a kick out of it.

It probably wouldn't be difficult to make a cabinet like that for today's flat screens. All you'd need would be a cabinet from an old set (beyond repair, of course), with a removable serving tray on top.

What goes around comes around. I bet this idea may surface again soon, but until then, a converted cabinet from an old, junker set (again, one well beyond repair--I wouldn't dream of gutting a cabinet of a vintage or antique TV still capable of being restored), with a tray on top, could well be the 21st century answer to the RCA set in that ad. In fact, it wouldn't be difficult at all to add such a tray to a working vintage or antique TV; just make a wooden platform matching the color of the cabinet, and set the tray on it. That way, there would be no removal or junking (!) of the vintage chassis, or anything else that would devalue the set.

With all the vacuum tubes in that set, it would keep the food warm. :banana: Though I don't think bananas taste that great warm. :D

Would not be hard to make the tray OUT of a flatscreen....Infact it would be a perfect fishtank-esq method of disposing of a modern set.

If nothing else, the servicemen would have liked it, easy to remove all the stuff people pile on top of the TV

Screen built into the door? I never got that one either... Any house I have been in which is luxurious enough to accommodate such an expensive fridge, has it in a totally inconvenient place to watch

At least you won't risk missing the grand slam in the bottom of the 9th, or the TD in the final 2 minutes, when going for a beer... :beerchug:
