Did anyone catch the 1969 aircraft-carrier sized combo set Don gave Megan on "Mad Men" last night? Couldn't ID it, but it did come with a hang tag...

Megan: "It's so big!!"
Don: "That's how they make them now."

yea could not id it either. pretty sure it was not a zenith or rca, think it had the sliding top like magnavox, maybe admiral I "think" admirals had that feature.

what ever it was it sure looked nice. Would be nice to know where they find these pristine looking sets.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but you do remember that Dons' agency represented Admiral TV's? Would be likely the partners owned Admiral sets, just as they smoked Lucky Strike cigarettes while they had that account.

Good point re: Admiral. I also liked how Don tried to overcome Megan's objections by saying, "You're going to be on TV. Don't you want to see yourself in Living Color?"

I would think that TV would make a much bigger part of the series in general, I mean it was THE form of entertainment/news/sports of the era, and Color was a HUGE deal. If you remember the ads back in the day, they really were creative and fun to watch.

I'm curious about the built-in color TV in the Drapers apartment. (last season)

Cool, I didn't realize it was back on, I'll watch it tonight.

I think the built in set is just a prop though I suppose they could have found and used an actual built in set from the period. All the pictures on the sets are added in later though and they overdo the interference a little bit.

It's an RCA, says so on the front bezel.

Boy, they really do the snow, and interference way too much. NYC and suburbs should have excellent TV reception. Heck, I live out here in Arkansas, and during the 1960's, we got great TV reception from all stations within range.

Yeah, they always show it pulling and bending, even when it's in Los Angeles and the Tower is probably 20 miles away.
