1985 Mitsubishi
 

I got this 19 inch Mitsubishi blue tube with its remote from the original owner today for 15$ off of craigslist it has the wood cabnet and a really sharp picture.

That's a very nice-looking set. Never saw a Mitsu of that design before.

Both set of grandparents bought Mitsubishi in their later years. Curiously they were WWII era people.

My grand parents on my dad's side had that model. Hmm..how old was the person you bought this from? :p

I would say late 50s early 60s

That's where to get the goods. The Hitachi console I'm restoring though, younger people had it. Older neighborhood though, wonder if it came with the house. They had a monstrous flat-screen on the other side of the garage. A CRT set of that size would have to be... well... a Curtis-Mathes. I doubt the flat-screen will hold up as well as the Hitachi did out there.

Not them then. :p She lives in Indiana, and is 86.

Edit :Oups silly me, "Mitsubishi 85" wasn't clear enough for me it seems...

Still it seems the models pre 85 (79-84), all got the same or almost the same layout...this one is different.

Nope, it's an '85. It's in the thread title, easily missed.

Does it do that thing where it slowly skips blank channels? My brother had a 1983 set that was basically that one but faux wood grain along the bottom with the display and five buttons up above the speaker, and it would slowly skip inactive channels. You couldn't program it.

Thats because at that time, everyone was buying Sony and Zenith.

Yes! it does skip through blank channels, and it was made in November of 85.

My parents were WWII-era, in fact, Dad was a bomber pilot in the Pacific theater during WWII. In later years, they bought not only a Mitsubushi TV, but also Mercedes and VW automobiles. I guess Dad didn't hold a grudge, or as an engineer, he recognized quality when he saw it!

I never did get the idea that Americans held much of a grudge against Germany as they did with Japan. I mean, Pearl Harbor obviously contributed heavily to the anti-Japanese sentiment, and not without good reason, but I think there are other aspects too as to why Germany got off relatively easy. But that is a discussion for a different forum.
